08-0C1214: US-395 Widening in Adelanto, CA
                Athalye Consulting provided civil engineering and construction management services to Caltrans District 8 for the US-395 Widening Project (08-0C1214). The scope included widening the median and shoulders and installing rumble strips for Highway US-395 in Adelanto, CA.
				
				Key challenges included protecting endangered desert tortoise populations within the project limits, transplanting Joshua trees and maintaining stormwater BMPs. In compliance with project requirements, the Contractor supplied a US Fish and Wildlife Service authorized  biological monitor (biologist), who conducted pre-construction surveys 30 days prior to ground disturbance. Temporary and permanent fencing was installed under the biologist’s supervision before construction began.
				
				My responsibilities included: Tracking materials, labor force account, and extra work. Instilling the highest standard of construction safety and strengthening overall safety of project. Weekly monitored and enforced Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Best Management Practices (BMP). Enforcing traffic control system compliance, lane closure procedures, and Construction Zone Enhanced Enforcement Program (COZEEP).
				
				Inspecting asphalt concrete (AC) paving and hot mix asphalt (HMA) paving. Enforcing and monitoring labor compliance requirements and prevailing wage laws and regulations. Reviewing quality assurance/ quality control (QA/QC) plan and ensuring strict adherence to the contract, plans, and specifications.
